US Navy

For the U.S. Navy, the task of lowering support costs and increasing availability requires non-traditional thinking. The proving grounds for their search will be the new Naval Logistics Readiness Research Center (NLRRC) that is being built through the joint efforts of CACI International and MCA Solutions in partnership with Temple University.

MCA’s Service Planning and Optimization (SPO™) product suite will power much of the research at the NLRRC. The center’s goal is to apply commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology to cut the cost of supplying the Navy with spare parts, without compromising the readiness of the armed forces. With research being conducted on forward-thinking techniques like multi-indenture and multi-echelon readiness-based sparing, centralized warehousing strategies, and the cost/benefit trade-offs between weapons replaceable units and piece-part repairs, the NLRCC will be a key factor in the Navy’s transition to better service and support strategies.
