Lockheed Martin
In 2001, after years of competition with other prominent defense contractors, Lockheed
Martin Aeronautics was chosen to build and support the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
Because the F-35 had to meet the needs of the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and
allies, the Department of Defense (DoD) placed a high value on its advanced support
techniques and reduced lifecycle costs.
Lockheed Martin, one of the world's largest system integrators, has teamed with
MCA Solutions to analyze performance-based logistics (PBL) agreements for weapons
and systems support. With growing pressure on the DOD to reduce defense budgets,
the military is turning to defense contractors like Lockheed Martin to leverage
PBL service agreements to increase systems availability at lower costs. MCA and
Lockheed Martin, along with a team of faculty and students from the Wharton School
of the University of Pennsylvania, are identifying strategies and solutions to support
PBL pricing formulas and drive optimum product up-time.
